Dr. Red Nose Diary – Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Dr. Red Nose Are Back!

Eight months, due to the pandemic, we had not entered a hospital for over half a year.

After a long wait, Dr. Red Nose were finally able to enter the hospital again and play with everyone. The night before, I opened the suitcase that had been sitting unused for so long and packed in the costumes and props needed for the performance. As I imagined what it would be like to enter the hospital, I couldn’t help but feel excited and nervous.

That day, we followed the familiar routine: gathering at the same time and place, taking the same elevator into the same wards, while the medical staff greeted us warmly as always, recorded patients’ conditions, and chatted with us. It was as if the last time we had seen one another was just yesterday. But in fact, everyone had each gone through an extremely difficult and stressful period, and now we were together again.

When the performance began, we encountered old friends and even more new faces. All the family members and children watched us with curiosity and released a long-missed warmth from such close contact. That energy filled me completely, and I was healed by it as a result.

“Snowflakes drift with the wind~ The sika deer are running~”

On the eve of Christmas, the clowns sang songs, dressed up as reindeer and Christmas trees, and went around asking everyone for gifts so that Santa Claus would have presents to hand out on Christmas Day. Suddenly, a social worker disguised as a bad Santa Claus appeared, and the clowns staged a Christmas battle with him in the hallway. When the clowns saw a gingerbread house on a child’s table, they really wanted to eat it, but the child demanded five million in exchange…

Every time we stepped into a hospital room, we entered an entirely new little world, sensed each person’s emotions, completed a performance with them, and then connected them all into the story of that day.

Let’s make life a little more humorous! Dr. Red Nose are here~!
