Dr. Red Nose’s Diary – Banana Best Friend

Once, I was playing in a hospital ward with a little boy who was about to undergo transplant surgery. Before saying goodbye at the end, he quietly took my prop banana. The clowns spent a long time and a great deal of effort trying to get that banana back. The reason was that the little boy knew that as soon as he returned the banana to me, we would leave.

Later, he accidentally snapped the banana in two in a fit of anger. The boy’s father was startled, and so was he. I immediately took out some stickers, carefully glued the banana back together, and said to him, “This banana represents the clown, so it can accompany you to the transplant room!” A look of relief flashed across the boy’s eyes.

Some time later, during a performance, I suddenly noticed that many children were holding a toy banana. It turned out that the little boy and his father had bought a whole bunch of toy bananas and handed them out to his good friends. Of course, one was also saved for me.

“Banana Best Friends” became a symbol of friendship during that period. A small prop carried the deep feelings shared among the children.
